Paiute customs and religion
One of the more important customs of the Paiute tribe was the ghost dance. The ghost dance was created by Wovaka a southern Paiute. He had a vision, in this vision he saw the tribe be reborn and not under the control of the white men. In this dance the Paiute tribe chanted and danced in a circle and it was supposed to eliminate all traces of the white people from their lives.
Another custom was that when someone was expecting a child the women was isolated for four days. In this time she observed taboos against touching her face or hair eating animal based foods and drinking cold liquids. She also ran west at sunrise and east at sunset. After the four day isolation, a series of rituals where performed. the young women was bathed in cold water her face was painted and her hair was singed or cut she ate animal foods and bitter herbs and to spit in a fire.
